Legionnaires’ Outbreak – A second person has died during the Upper East Side outbreak, which has sickened at least 72 people. New infections have slowed significantly.
City Targets Dangerous Buildings And Deceptive Landlords – The administration released a Rental Ripoff Report outlining stronger enforcement against hazardous conditions and misleading rental practices. Housing complaints remain a major city concern.

Restaurant Openings
Graciela, West Village – Argentine restaurateur Pablo Rivero opened his first American restaurant at 81 Greenwich Avenue. The live-fire menu includes ossobuco empanadas, grilled branzino, and Argentine steaks.
Frenchette Bakery, Nolita – Frenchette Bakery opened its third location at Broome and Mott Streets. The compact shop serves pistachio croissants, naturally leavened bread, sandwiches, and its first bacon, egg, and cheese.
Tin’s, Lower East Side – This three-level Shanghai-inspired bar opened at 109 Ludlow Street on July 17. Cocktails and limited snacks are available before its soup dumpling menu launches in September.
Maison Madison, Battery Park City – This new French-inspired restaurant opened with emerald walls, crystal chandeliers, a formal dress code, and membership access. It is located at Brookfield Place.
Masani Pizza, Forest Hills – A family-run pizzeria opened inside the former Lillian Pizza space. Its menu revives neighborhood favorites including broccoli pinwheels, calzones, and chicken rolls.
Oberon, Lower East Side – The expanded New Museum opened its first full-service restaurant at 235 Bowery. The seasonal American menu includes composed salads, steak, trout, pasta, and cocktails.
